List the receiving, put-away, picking, transfer or count steps in scope. Include materially different locations or operating practices.
Prepare the task and equipment before asking for a broad estimate.

Devices and labels
Identify scanner and mobile-device models, printer types and representative label formats. Equipment differences can change implementation and testing needs.
Inventory connections and record quality
Describe supported vendor interfaces and the current item and location references. Inconsistent identifiers or duplicated records may need separate cleanup work.
Interrupted work and correction rules
Offline requirements, repeated actions, approvals and reconciliation all affect scope. State which are required for the first delivery.
Rollout and ongoing care
Account for shift patterns, training, isolated checks and maintenance ownership. Separate initial development from hardware, vendor fees and ongoing support.
